Next week, Tuesday, the Mayoral election is taking place in Detroit. It has come down to business man and current Mayor, Dave Bing and account and ex-felon Tom Barrow. I am not a true fan of either candidate, so the decision on who I will be voting for on November 3rd, was not an easy one. I have listened to Tom Barrow speak on several radio and television shows and sometimes I can't follow his train of thought to save my life. He talks about how many officers he's going to add to the police force and all the different things that boil down to more "spending". I haven't really heard a true platform. I do like the fact that he is out, interacting with voters...but is that enought to get my vote. I also attended a couple of town hall meetings that Mayor Dave Bing held and was somewhat impressed, number one by the fact that he finally decided to show his face in public as we have been asking for, for quite some time; and two on the accomplishments that he spoke of , which have not been widely publicized. These are accomplishments, I've learned, that actually knocked down that $300 Million deficit some. For me it's common sense and I would hope that others will ask themselves the same question that I have asked myself. Will the state & federal governments allow a convicted felon to take over a $3 Billion budget for the city? The answer to that is NO, so if Barrow wins, we may as well prepare for a government take over of our city. The second question is, If given more time, will Mayor Bing continue the momentum and do what's necessary to FIX Detroit's issues? Even though his approach is not very attractive to most of us in this city, I believe that he is the right candidate for the job and that he will move Detroit forward. I would rather take a chance with the current Mayor, based on his track record with his company and his recent track record and see how far he can take Detroit. I don't know about anyone else but I'm tired of the rollercoaster ride...I'm ready for my head to stop spinning and get some normalcy back to my city and back to city government.
